Israel

Israel is pure joy. The goofiest of four siblings, he is always trying to make everyone laugh with his silly personality and playful energy. A true all-around boy’s boy, Israel loves being outdoors, climbing anything in sight, jumping off things, and staying on the move. Beneath all the fun, he is incredibly loving and caring, bringing laughter and light to his family every day.

Israel’s medical journey began suddenly after he had a seizure at school. He was taken to the hospital for a CT scan, where doctors discovered a mass in his brain. An MRI soon confirmed the diagnosis: a brain tumor. The news was overwhelming and frightening, filled with uncertainty about what treatment might be needed and what the future would hold.

Israel was cared for at Beacon Children’s Hospital, where doctors determined the tumor was benign but still required surgical removal. On February 20, 2025, Israel underwent a craniotomy to remove the tumor that had caused his seizures. The weeks leading up to surgery were stressful, with many unknowns, but his family placed their trust in God and in the medical team caring for their son.

The surgery went smoothly and resulted in the best possible outcome. Once the tumor was removed, Israel had no further seizures and no additional treatment was needed. His recovery was remarkable. After a short period of rest, he was back to being himself, playing games, coloring, doing puzzles, and keeping up with schoolwork at home. His teachers were amazed at how well he stayed on track and could hardly tell he had been out for a month.

What makes his parents most proud is how Israel handled everything. While the experience was overwhelming for the adults, Israel never fixated on fear or “what ifs.” He approached the situation calmly, stayed positive, and accepted each step as it came.

When Israel was selected as a Junior Irish Reporter, his family was thrilled. This was their first major medical experience, and this opportunity felt like a celebration on the other side of something scary. Israel is a little nervous, but very excited. He loves basketball and spends hours playing on the half court in his basement. Being able to see college athletes play on a big stage will be a brand-new experience for him.

Looking back, what stands out most is the trust that carried their family through the journey. Trust in God, and trust in the medical staff, especially Dr. Fulkerson, who performed Israel’s brain surgery with skill and confidence. The ICU team at Beacon Children’s Hospital was attentive, reassuring, and supportive every step of the way.

Israel’s family wants others to know how much Beacon Children’s Hospital truly cares. From clear communication to compassionate bedside care, they felt supported during one of the most frightening moments of their lives. They remain deeply grateful for an outcome that truly was the best case scenario.
