Hudson

Today, Hudson is a thriving 12-year-old who loves life, but his story began with a fight for survival. He and his twin brother, Hayden, were born on November 7th at just 28 weeks and one day. Hudson weighed 2 pounds 4 ounces, while Hayden weighed only 1 pound 8 ounces. Both boys were rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Beacon Children’s Hospital.

Hudson was tiny but strong, spending nine weeks in the NICU before going home. Hayden’s journey was more difficult. He faced multiple medical challenges and required specialized care at a hospital five hours away. Still, their parents worked hard to give the boys precious time together as a family. “It was important to us to have them as close together as we could,” their mom said. “Those moments together were amazing.”

On February 2, 2014, after 14 months of life, Hayden passed away. Hudson carries his twin’s memory with him every day. Each year, his family donates in loving memory of Hayden—a tradition that keeps Hayden’s spirit alive through kindness to others. Their 2023 donation went to the MedFlight Team, honoring those who provide lifesaving care.

Hudson’s mom calls him “the most compassionate, caring 12-year-old I know,” and the family couldn’t be more proud of the boy he is becoming. His empathy and resilience are part of what makes his story so powerful.

This year, Hudson was selected as a Junior Irish Reporter with Notre Dame Athletics. For him, it was not only a chance to meet players and enjoy an exciting opportunity, but also a way to celebrate his story alongside Hayden’s. The timing made it especially meaningful: Hudson and his family will celebrate his and Hayden’s 13th birthday on November 7th, just one day before the Navy game. “We are so thankful his game is the day after such a bittersweet day,” his mom shared.

Beacon Children’s Hospital is woven deeply into Hudson’s life and his family’s journey. From the NICU days, to the memories with Hayden, to the ongoing support they’ve received, Beacon has been a place of healing, compassion, and hope.

Because of the generosity of donors, kids like Hudson not only receive lifesaving care but also opportunities to build confidence, find joy, and carry their stories into the future.
