Beacon Health Foundation was established in 2016 when the Elkhart General Hospital Foundation and Memorial Hospital Foundation merged. Beacon Health Foundation ensures Beacon Health System can meet the future health care needs of our community by generating philanthropic support. We are chartered to raise funds that help improve the quality of life for people in our region today and in the future.

Beacon Health System is a nonprofit health system. No patient is turned away for inability to pay. Patient revenues, Medicaid, Medicare and other third-party insurances often do not cover all of patients’ costs. In addition, some of the critical programs and services we offer are not always billable. We fundraise to help support these programs and services because it is the right thing to do.

You may designate your gift to be used by any hospital, department or program. Beacon Health Foundation also supports many initiatives that require ongoing funding, so undesignated gifts will go to the area of greatest need as determined by foundation and system leadership. All gifts received by the foundation are carefully processed to ensure the donor’s designation of the gift is honored.

Yes. Donations to Beacon Health Foundation are considered tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. You should consult with your tax attorney/advisor concerning the deductibility of your gift.

Yes! Donors at any level may designate a specific hospital, program area or initiative that best matches their area of interest. You can also make an unrestricted gift, which allows Beacon Health Foundation to apply your funding to the areas of most critical need.

Yes. Beacon Health Foundation was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2016. Our tax ID is 35-1536129.

Beacon Health Foundation does not make grants. We raise funds specifically to support the programs and initiatives of Beacon in areas where revenue is not sufficient. However, nonprofits may apply for community health grants through Beacon Community Impact.

Beacon supports community organizations by returning a portion of its operating revenues to the community. This is done by making grants through Community Impact for community organizations invested in the health and well-being of community members or through specific sponsorships/charitable donations per approved guidelines.

When you give to Beacon Health Foundation, these funds support Community Impact programs and initiatives that are led and managed by Beacon. For example, Foundation funds are used for Beacon’s B.A.B.E. Store, continuing education for associates, resources required to implement programming within the community, etc. In addition, funds are used for high school internships, educational scholarships and more.

Personal and financial information about our contributors is not disclosed by Beacon Health Foundation except as may be required by law.
